Management & Leadership CMI Level 3 Diploma

The CMI Level 3 Diploma in Principles of Management and Leadership is a nationally recognised qualification designed for aspiring or practising first-line managers such as team leaders, supervisors, and project officers.

It develops key leadership and management skills including team management, communication, resource planning, and personal development.

Learners complete a minimum of 37 credits through a combination of units covering foundational principles, interpersonal excellence, organisational performance, and personal effectiveness.

Assessed through assignments and graded as Pass/Refer, the qualification supports progression to Level 5 study and Chartered Manager status.

We offer two pathways for you to excel in your leadership practice. Dip your toe in and select the Certificate. Or choose to complete additional units to achieve the Diploma. The choice is yours and you can always “top-up” from the Certificate to the Diploma at a later date.

The Level 3 Diploma is part of the Free Courses for Jobs initiative and is fully funded for eligible learners. Alternatively, you can apply for an advanced learner loan to cover the cost of studying this course.

Need to know

Entry requirements

Learners should have achieved qualifications in English and mathematics at grade 4 or above at GCSE or equivalent.

Your experience in the workplace and current role will be discussed at interview to determine if the Level 3 or Level 5 is most appropriate for you.
Entry to Level 5 will also require evidence of prior academic abilities at Level 3 or above.

How will I be assessed?

There are no exams for this qualification. Instead, you’ll be assessed through a series of practical, work-related assignments. These may include:

  • Written reports
  • Case studies
  • Reflective accounts
  • Presentations
  • Work-based evidence

All assessments are internally marked and externally verified by CMI. You must complete each assignment to a Pass standard to achieve the qualification.

This flexible assessment approach allows you to apply your learning directly to real life management scenarios.
